Transport

Woolwich is an important river crossing with both the Woolwich Ferry and the recently refurbished pedestrian Thames tunnel. The area benefits from a number of transport facilities.

Air: London City Airport is just across the river and travels to destinations across Europe such as Barcelona and Paris as well as new York.

Mainline rail: Current destinations from Woolwich Arsenal are Canary Wharf in 17 minutes, Liverpool Street  33 minutes. Plumstead railway station is served by Southeastern Rail on the North Kent Line.

Crossrail: A Crossrail station will open in 2018 reducing the journey time to Canary Wharf to a few minutes.

Docklands Light Railway: Woolwich Arsenal is also a DLR station with a journey time of 21 minutes to Canary Wharf.

Bus: The area is well served by extensive bus services to areas such as Catford, Elephant and Castle, Eltham, Lewisham and Peckham.

Thames Clipper: The Thames Clipper river bus leaves from Woolwich Arsenal jetty with a 30 minute journey time to Canary Wharf. It also serves the QE2 Pier (the O2) in 6 minutes, Greenwich in 15–20 minutes, Canary, London Bridge 30–40 minutes and Embankment in 45 minutes.

Road: The A206 runs just to the south of the Royal Arsenal, this joins with the A102 in Greenwich allowing easy access to the north of the river. Approximately 2km south of the A206 is the A207 and a little further still is the A2 and the A20, which when taking the easterly direction joins with the M20 and M25 giving great access to rest of the country.

Schools: There are a good selection of educational institutions within easy travelling distance of the Royal Arsenal. Greenwich has 64 primary, 13 secondary, 1 special and 3 independent schools.

Educational attainment in the borough has improved substantially with the investment of over £290 million in improvements to secondary schools for the period 2006 to 2015.

Further Education: The Anglian College London offers FE and HE operating mainly from Woolwich, London. It has four academic and one administrative departments. It is one of the few colleges accredited by both City and Guilds and Association of Business Executives (ABE) in the region. Greenwich Community College runs a wide range of full-time and part-time academic and vocational qualification courses.

Higher Education: The University of Greenwich main campus is located in the distinctive buildings of the former Royal Naval College. The university has other campuses at Avery Hill in Eltham and at Medway. Near the Greenwich campus, the Trinity College of Music is housed in the buildings of the former Greenwich Hospital. Other universities in the vicinity are the Queen Mary University, the University of East London and the Academy of Performing Arts.

Shops & Leisure

Shopping & Dining:  The charming boutiques of nearby Greenwich are close at hand and with the superb links to the rest of the city, nowhere is out of reach for the shoppers and diners. In a historic building at the centre of Royal Arsenal Riverside is the Dial Arch gastro-pub; a great place to watch the world go by, catch up with friends or relax on a leather sofa by the fire. Royal Arsenal Riverside will also soon be home to the Geronimo Inn, known for its great food and drinks and atmosphere.

Leisure & Entertainment: Royal Arsenal is home to Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of Greenwich Park, visit the world’s largest National Maritime Museum or explore the stars at the world-famous observatory.

Green Space: A relaxing park connects the new Crossrail station to Royal Arsenal Riverside and the River Thames, as well as Woolwich town centre beyond, so meeting friends for coffee or popping to the supermarket will be no more than a peaceful and leisurely stroll.
